Ray Bradley elected to the European Academy

Raymond Bradley, distinguished professor in geosciences and director of the Climate System Research Center, was recently elected to the European Academy, Academia Europaea, joining 21 other U.S. members in its Earth and Cosmic Sciences section.

Founded in 1988, the organization of more than 3,500 members includes leading experts from the physical sciences and technology, biological sciences and medicine, mathematics, letters and humanities, social and cognitive sciences, economics and the law. Together, its scientist and scholar members aim to promote learning, education and research.Before this latest honor, which was announced in December, Bradley received the doctor honoris causa 2016 degree from the University of Bern, Switzerland for his contributions to climate science over a decades-long career.He also has received honorary degrees from the U.K.’s Lancaster University and Queen’s University of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. In 2014 he won the Roy J. Zuckerberg Endowed Leadership Award, given to a UMass researcher who has had an impact “as a leader in research, teaching or service on a local, national or international level.”


He has previously won the Hans Oeschger Medal from the European Geosciences Union and is honored as a fellow of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, the American Geophysical Union, the Association for the Advancement of Science and the Arctic Institute of North America.
