TL Research My PhD research is at Lake Tuborg, Ellesmere Island, Nunavut (Click for a topo map). Lake Tuborg is 42 km2, has a maximum depth of 155 m. Tuborg has two basins - the southwest one is meromictic, with trapped saltwater below 55 m. I'm trying to understand how varves and laminae form at Lake Tuborg by monitoring physical processes in the lake. I'm particularly interested in determining how processes differ between the two basins, and how the chemocline affects sedimentation. I've been monitoring the limnology and meteorology with temperature loggers, current meters, sediment traps, and a CTD.

Recent work has focused on interpolating between grids of CTD casts near major deltas. An open source package called OpenDX is being used.
